Five projects have been accepted during the third session of 2018 organised by the CNC’s first advance on receipts committee. Standing out particularly among all these feature debuts is Dune Dreams by Samuel Doux, best known for having been involved in writing the screenplays for The Prayer [+lee también:

ficha de la película] by Joachim Lafosse. As well as being a novelist, Doux has also helmed three short films, including Innocente (in the national competition at Clermont-Ferrand and the international competition at Locarno in 2011).

Co-written by Samuel Doux and Camille Lugan, with contributions from Fanny Burdino, the story of Dune Dreams sees Simon and his son Camille move to Dubai after the death of Simon’s wife in order to nurse and overcome the feeling of grief they are going through. In this unusual city, Camille manages to forget, let go and build a new life for himself. But for Simon, it’s not as easy as that. He discovers a worrying presence within him, an emotionless double, lurking in the shadows. He gradually sinks further into his anguish and thinks he is losing his mind. But in Dubai, he’s not the only one falling victim to this menacing presence; it is affecting all those who resist and refuse to make a clean break with the past… Production duties on Dune Dreams will be entrusted to Caroline Bonmarchand for Avenue B Productions.

The CNC will also be backing another fiction feature debut: Slalom [+lee también:

An advance on receipts will also go to the animated project Trois enfances by Italy’s Simone Massi (set to be produced by Fabrice Préel-Cléach for Offshore). The Italian illustrator, whose work made a huge splash recently at Cannes in Samouni Road [+lee también:

ficha de la película], directed by his fellow countryman Stefano Savona, is credited with the original idea for the screenplay for his directorial feature debut, which he co-penned with Alessio Torino. The plot, which is set in the Apennines, in the Marches region, revolves around an old house and a family of farmers, and one main character in particular. The story spans three time periods: 1918, 1944 and 1978. Italian co-production duties will be handled by Minimum Fax Media. 

Lastly, the CNC will throw its weight behind two feature-length documentary projects: Dirt. by Andrei Schtakleff (Spectre Productions), and À bas by Jeanne Delafosse and Camille Plagnet (L’atelier documentaire).
