THE DANDELIONS

by Carine Tardieu

synopsis

Rachel Gladstein is nine years old. Her mother smothers her with love. Her father is cheerfully cynical and her grandmother adorably treacherous. Rachel dreams of being loved by her nasty blond teacher, of being accepted into the Barbie Fan Club and becoming the only friend of Marina Campbell, whose mother is dead and whose father is an English baron. But it’s back to school and Rachel is sleeping with her schoolbag and wetting the bed. Her mother insists on her going into therapy with a most unusual psychiatrist and, to make things worse, obnoxious and chubby Valerie has set her sights on Rachel and is pestering her to become her friend. When fate is picking on you, what’s the use of fighting back ?...
