PAUVRE RICHARD

by Malik Chibane

synopsis

Richard Dinéro lives in an underprivileged, working-class project. He's a good-looking guy, but the lack of money, social inertia, and his own innate couldn't-care-less attitude have turned him into a professional loser. A big, 124-million euro win lands on the 'hood! A genuine earthquake for the inhabitants; the sum is equal to 10,000 years of the minimum wage! And the winner wants to remain anonymous! You've got to be kidding! The 'hood goes crazy! The hunt is on, the winner must be unmasked, the only entrance and exit to the project is under watch, no one must get away. Meanwhile, in a cheap furniture store, Richard sets up credit payments so he can purchase a small couch... for two hundred euros. Except, due to an error by the shop clerk, a leather sofa, accompanied by a home cinema, is delivered to him instead. This unfortunate delivery, worth at least 10,000 euros, is witnessed by the whole neighborhood, which descends like a pack of hungry wolves. The die is cast! This is the irrefutable proof the 'hood has been waiting for: Richard is the winner! Poor Richard…
