had a budget of €4.26 million, including an Advance against Receipts from the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC) of €420,000, co-production contributions from France 2 Cinéma (€500,000 euros including €300,000 broadcasting rights), financial backing from the Rhône-Alps Region and advance purchases from Canal + and TPS. A 100% French production, the film also benefited from the tax credit scheme created in order to relocalise filming in France.

The French international sales company Pyramide took advantage of the entry of the Larrieus’ film in the official competition of the last Cannes Festival to seduce numerous purchasers on the Croisette, in particular, Europeans. According to Eric Lagesse, Pyramide’s Managing Director, and Pascale Josse, International Sales Manager,To Paint or Make Love was purchased for Germany by Prokino Filmverleih, for the Benelux by Les Films de L'Elysée, for Switzerland by Monopole Pathé, for Former Yugoslavia by Tuck and for Portugal by Atalanta Filmes, with negotiations currently under way with Italy and Spain. The film has also been sold, in particular, to Australia and Korea.
