The Black Nights Film Festival (Tallinn, Estonia) and the European Commission today announced their collaboration to explore the future of European cinema via a jointly organised conference and a showcase programme. The European Film Forum Tallinn will be held from 18-19 November 2015 during the 19th edition of the festival and its Industry@Tallinn summit. The event will be an opportunity to discuss the European Digital Single Market Strategy coordinated by European Commission Vice-President and former Prime Minister of Estonia, Andrus Ansip. Participants will also look into synergies and collaborations between right holders, the audiovisual industry and the booming startup and ICT sector. New opportunities offered by the Creative Europe-MEDIA programme will also be in the spotlight. In addition to the debates and sessions on the new prospects for sales and distribution, challenges for intellectual property and copyright in the digital age, diversity within the VoD market and new forms of audience engagement, the two days will be packed with showcases, performances and demonstrations of innovative products and services.

The attendees will also get the best of Nordic startups, audiovisual technology and post-production companies at the Black Nights Digital Corner showcase fair, whilst the GameJam organised together with International Game Developers Association will give some 20 film intellectual property rights owners a chance to prototype film-driven games. The Black Nights Sales Summit will back up the conference with a tailor-made programme for top sales agents and buyers to familiarise themselves with regional distributors but also provide new sales and acquisition leads from Nordic countries, Baltic states, and Eastern and Central Europe.

Sten-Kristian Saluveer, industry director of the Black Nights Film Festival, said: “We are living in a time of a great disjuncture in terms of how films are being conceived, made, distributed and want to be seen, and we are truly excited to collaborate with the European Commission to host an event that will not only step into the ongoing debate within the European audiovisual industry and yield results for all involved parties, but hopefully will help the industry to take joint steps into the future as well.”
