A unique event that embraces film, television and documentary, a place of encounter, discussion and inspiration that goes beyond the structure of traditional markets to create job and networking opportunities and to support the internationalisation of audiovisual products in every aspect. After the successful inaugural edition last year (which was attended by 1,317 accredited professionals and where 58 countries were represented), Rome is seeing the return of the MIA, the International Audiovisual Market, put together by ANICA and APT, the second edition of which will be held from 20 to 24 October as part of the Rome Film Fest (13-23 October).
Looking at the film sector, new additions to this year’s edition of the Market, which is directed by Lucia Milazzotto and involves over 400 international industry professionals and the screening of more than 100 films, include What’s Next Italy, a work-in-progress session dedicated to Italian film, featuring 15 works currently being made by both well-established and emerging writers: foreign buyers will get a first glimpse at Red Istanbul by Ferzan Ozpetek, True Love by the Manetti Bros, I Can Quit Whenever I Want 2: Masterclass [+lire aussi :

fiche film] by Sydney Sibilia, Stories of love that cannot belong to this world [+lire aussi :
fiche film] by Francesca Comencini, and No Country for Young Men by Giovanni Veronesi, among others. The co-production market will instead present 24 projects from 14 different countries (such as Molly by Sally Potter and Ballad for a Pierced Heart by Yannis Economides), including the six projects by emerging Italian writers from the new YAS - Young Audience Spotlight programme, dedicated to films for young audiences (in partnership with Alice nella Città), including Il fenomeno by Cosimo Alemà. Two prizes are up for grabs: the Eurimages Co-production Development Award (which comes with a cash prize of €20,000), and the new ARTE International Prize (€5,000).
The TV section will feature pitches of new co-production projects to be made in Italy and with Italy at the Drama Pitching Forum, with a selection of 10 national and international TV series looking for potential global partners (including French-Italian production Casanova’s Daughters and German-Czech-British production Emperor of Eternity - Rudolf II), as well as meetings, masterclasses and workshops, including one on “How to put together a co-production budget: Europe meets the USA”. The MIA Doc will instead focus on Italian documentary and factual Art & Culture projects, a a key sector for Italy, with a selection of eight films in the Pitching Forum, round tables, and debates between professionals. New to this year’s edition is the partnership with Sunny Side of the Doc: one of the projects selected for the MIA will have the chance to participate in this prestigious French market and be presented in the official selection of Sunny Side 2017.
Finally, once again this year the first day of the MIA will be dedicated to the world of animation, with, among other activities, a panel organised by the Creative Europe Desk Italy/MEDIA with the support of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, a journey through the past, present and future entitled “MEDIA and animation: proposals and prospects”, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the European Union’s MEDIA Programme.
