The fourth edition of Visioni dal Mondo, Immagini dalla Realtà International Documentary Festival is due to touch down in Milan from 13-16 September – an important ‘real-life’ cinema event that is open to the public, free-of-charge and organised by the production company Frankieshowbiz, under the artistic direction of Fabrizio Grosoli. This year’s edition will be held at the Triennale di Milano, the exhibition's main venue, as well as the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli cultural centre and the National Leonardo da Vinci Science and Technology Museum. Actress and director Lorenza Indovina will be sponsoring the festival’s fourth edition.

Over 30 Italian and international premieres have been chosen among 150 films for the Contemporary World Stories section, including international titles that have won awards at some of the most prestigious international film festivals, while some of the best contemporary Italian film productions have been selected for the Out of Competition section. 

This year’s guest of honour is the documentary filmmaker and director Costanza Quatriglio, who will hold a masterclass and will also be receiving the Visioni dal Mondo Award. Among the highly anticipated premieres, the festival will be screening Wall by Cam Christiansen, the first animated documentary film produced by the National Film Board of Canada, The School in the Cloud by Jerry Rothwell, which tackles the theme of web-based education and training, Transformer by Michael Del Monte, which deals with the theme of gender identity and Con Exit by Karen Winther, which tells the story of the director’s research trip in order to unearth the reasons for abandoning an extremist militant past. 

The Italian Out of Competition Panorama section will screen the hotly-anticipated Women, a documentary film produced and directed by Yvonne Sciò, a journey into the world of women, who open themselves up to the director's objective. While the Contemporary World Stories section confirms its central role in this year's edition, aimed at young Italian filmmakers, by screening the world premiere of 13 titles selected from over 150 documentaries. The titles in competition include Blindly Dancing by Fabio Palmieri, Due di Due by Noemi Salonia, I vetri tremano by Alessandro Focareta, Il canto del mare by Claudia Neubern, Le cicale by Emiliano Mancuso and Federico Romano, L’ora d’acqua by Claudia Cipriani, Mauro da Budelli by Marco Tagliabue, Ogni cosa rosa by Patrizia Emma Scialpi, Fabiana Foschi, Ghila Cerniani and Giuseppe Costa, Sa Femina Accabadora - la dama della buona morte by Fabrizio Galatea, Scripta Manent by Giorgia Ripa, Strange Fish by Giulia Bertoluzzi, The Wash - La lavatrice by Tomaso Mannoni and Una gloriosa delegazione a Pyongyang by Pepi Romagnoli. 

In addition to the titles already mentioned, the International Panorama sectionwill be screening How to build a Time Machine by Jay Cheel, Pick of The Litter by Dana Nachman and Don Hardy, Spaceship Earth by Kevin McMahon, The Guardians by Billie Mintz, The School in The Cloud by Jerry Rothwell and Karl Marx City by Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker (Italian distribution: Wanted Cinema). 

The Italian Out of Competition Panorama section, in collaboration with Rai Cinema and Rai Cultura, will be screening Via Gallica: sulle orme dei Romani fra storia e archeologia, written by Keti Riccardi and directed by Matteo Bardelli and My Home, In Libya [+lire aussi :

The Visioni Incontra industry section – reserved for accredited invitees and exclusively dedicated to the sector – has been organised by Cinzia Masòtina and will take place on 13 and 14 September in front of a parterre of sector professionals. 16 Italian documentaries still in progress, selected from those enrolled in the competition’s call for tender, will compete for the Visioni Incontra Best Documentary Project Award. While the Visioni Incontra section will be hosting panels and in-depth workshops, reserved exclusively for the cinema and audiovisual sectors, on issues that specifically concern documentary filmmaking.
