). In a similar fashion to the director's previous films, the screenplay was written by the director along with Giuditta Tarantelli, while Ugo Carlevaro is set to join the project as the director of photography, Fabio Bobbio as the editor and Gian Antonio Fusar Poli as the set designer. The idea for the film dates back almost ten years and came about during a holiday in Trieste. The filming took place in June and July 2017 in Trieste, the region of Colli Orientali del Friuli and a villa in Rosazzo.

"We’re delighted to hear that the film has been selected to premiere in competition at an international festival as prestigious and courageous as Montreal," declared the director, "because it was precisely courage that encouraged us and our producers to create Isabelle, a film that required a lot of effort but allowed me to tell an internationally inspired story with Ariane Ascaride, an actress with great sensitivity."

The Italian release of Isabelle is scheduled for the end of November.
