Ascanio Celestini

WhenAcanio Celestini (Rome, 1972) writes for the stage or screen, he does extensive research in the field, investigating historical events and issues involving the recent past and the collective imagination. Radio clandestinaScemo di guerraLa pecora nera and Appunti per un film sulla lotta di classe are just a few of Celestini's plays performed in Italy and abroad. Among his numerous awards, in 2002 he won the Special UBU Prize, while three years later he received kudos for his play Scemo di guerra. After making his directorial debut in 2004 with the documentary Senza paura, he made a second one three years later, Parole sante, which premiered at the Rome Film Festival in the Extra section, and lent its name to the title of an album (which won the Ciampi Award for Best Debut Album). In 2010 Pecora nera, Celestini's debut feature, screened in competition at the Venice Film Festival. His books are published by Einaudi and Donzelli.
