At this year’s Transilvania International Film Festival, which is currently in full swing, Lithuania is being showcased as a guest country. The Lithuanian film programme consists of 13 works, representing a variety of genres. These include documentaries such as Barzakh and Master and Tatyana, notable festival hits like The Gambler [+leggi anche:

as well as a number of restored archival classics.

“We are glad that the organisers of the festival have shown an interest in such a wide scope of Lithuanian cinematography – from avant-garde pioneer Jonas Mekas to the works of Šarūnas Bartas,” said Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson, head of the Department of Film Promotion, Information and Heritage at the Lithuanian Film Centre. In fact, Bartas will be the special focus of the festival – three of his films have been included in the programme of renowned filmmakers entitled “3x3”.

“I became acquainted with Lithuania and its cinematography several years ago, when I visited the local Kino Pavasaris film festival,” said Mihai Chirilov, the programmer of the TIFF. “I saw a number of Lithuanian movies and met local film-industry professionals. I believe the Lithuanian movies that have been created during the past five years and which are included in our programme are a good representation of the Lithuanian film industry, revealing its uniqueness and versatility.”

The first Romanian-Lithuanian co-production, Eastern Business [+leggi anche:

(directed by Igor Cobileanski and produced by Dagnė Vildžiūnaitė), will be premiered in the Romanian Days competition programme. There are hopes to boost the number of joint projects in the future.

The showcase of Lithuanian cinematography has been organised and supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre together with the Transilvania Film Festival.
