Questo articolo è disponibile in inglese.

Focusing on Eastern European cinema, the market will feature presentations of 13 new works-in-progress, new Polish films and workshops for both filmmakers and film critics

The CentEast Market will take place from 14-16 October, during the final days of the 32nd Warsaw Film Festival. Organised by the Warsaw Film Foundation since 2005, the market provides a meeting space for sales agents, distributors, festival programmers and producers interested in Eastern European cinema.

The programme of this year’s CentEast Market will present 13 selected Eastern European works-in-progress, held in Warsaw on 14 October and repeated in Moscow a few days later. The list includes new projects by Peter Bebjak (The Cleaner [+leggi anche:

"Some of the CentEast projects‎ were very successful and we are happy and proud that our efforts contributed to their success. Our team managed to create an event, which became one of the key meeting platforms for professionals interested in Eastern European cinema," says festival director Stefan Laudyn.

As part of the Warsaw Next workshop for young Polish filmmakers, several meetings, case studies, lectures and discussion panels will be held, focusing on the most important aspects of the film industry and highlighting the key issues of film production, promotion and distribution. Bringing together more than 70 participants, this year’s workshop is organised in cooperation with Sundance TV to present the Sundance Masterclass on 15 October. Run by Zofia Horszczaruk from New Europe Film Sales and the Norwegian director Gunhild Engerfocusing, the masterclass will focus specifically on the promotion and sale of short films.

Six young film critics from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine will take part in the 11th FIPRESCI Warsaw Critics Project, an initiative between the Warsaw Film Foundation, FIPRESCI, Film New Europe and Cineuropa. Under the guidance of experienced critics Carmen Gray and Michael Pattison, they will write reviews, conduct interviews, meet industry professionals and receive feedback on their work. According to Pattison, the aim of the workshop is to approach criticism as a craft, but also to acquaint the participants with the realities of making it a profession, especially the practicalities of attending film festivals and building a network. The participants have a collective vote in the FIPRESCI jury deliberation process and have their own prize to award a film in the FIPRESCI selection.
