The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) announces the opening and closing films for its 47th edition (24 January - 4 February 2018). Inaugurating the twelve-day festival will be the world premiere of Jimmie [+leggi anche:

scheda film] by Swedish filmmaker Jesper Ganslandt, a road movie with a truly original twist about a father and son on the run.

Festival Director Bero Beyer said, “Ganslandt offers a truly new perspective in an intense cinematic experience that makes us view the world anew. The film is an honest and subtly executed take on one of the more pressing issues we face in today’s society, as seen through the eyes of a striking protagonist, a four-year-old boy. Jimmie is a remarkable, emotional and thought-provoking story and we’re proud it will open our 47th edition.” Read our interview with Ganslandt after winning the Eurimages Lab Project in Haugesund for this very film here.

On the other hand, the closing film will be The Death of Stalin [+leggi anche:

Moreover, the festival has also announced the eight films selected for its Big Screen Competition: three world premieres, one international premiere and four European premieres. A jury of five experienced festival-goers picks the winner of the VPRO Big Screen Award worth €30,000. The winning film will be released in Dutch cinemas and will be purchased by the Dutch public broadcasting network NPO to screen on national television.
