Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week has renewed the initiative, Next Step, for the fourth year running, which aims to help young filmmakers (who made it through the competition in the corresponding section at Cannes) to take the plunge from short to feature-length films. Over four editions, Next Step has supported 38 filmmakers (42% female directors) from 19 countries. This year, 11 feature films supported by the programme will enter into financing or production, including 7500 by German director Patrick Vollrath (starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt ) and Le Déserteur, the French comedy by Antoine de Bary (starring Vincent Lacoste ).
