A Czech offshoot of the Girls in Film platform which supports aspiring female filmmakers is being organised in Prague. The micro-festival, organized in cooperation with Film Europe Media Company, will introduce five emerging European female filmmakers to the audience. “Girls in Film originally started in London, with the aim of presenting the wide variety of work that is created by women, from “classic” films right through to music videos and videoart,” says Julie Zackova, producer and founder of the Prague arm of Girls in Film, which previously collaborated with event iShorts, as well as lending its support to a panel of upcoming female producers at FAMUfest.

, directed by young Polish director Jagoda Szelc, which was in competition at the Berlinale this year and which charmed me with its poetic atmosphere and unexpected storyline, set in the traditionally religious context of rural Poland,” enthuses Dagmar Sedlackova, a producer and co-founder of the new Prague-based platform. The screening of the film will be accompanied by a debate on the current position of women in the film industry, both at home and abroad.

Girls in Film - Prague will run from 14 to 16 June.
