, which will be the first French-language film (and also more importantly the first film outside his native country) by the Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner of a Palme d’Or in May at Cannes with Shoplifters, his fifth year participating in competition on the Croisette after 2001 (Distance), 2004 (Best Actor Award for Nobody Knows), 2013 (Jury Award for Like Father, Like Son) and 2015 (Our Little Sister).

and Celle que vous croyez) and the American actor Ethan Hawke (nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2002 and 2015). It's also worth noting that Ludivine Sagnier (nominated for a César award in 2004 and 2008 for Best Supporting Actress and noted for her performance in The Young Pope; in cinemas at the end of the year in Lola et ses frères and Rémi sans famille) also stars inthe castin a much more modest role.

The screenplay, written by the director, focuses on Catherine, a French film star. She reigns amongst men who love and admire her: her new partner, her former husband, her agent… When she publishes her memoirs, her daughter Juliette (who has moved to the States to get away from her overbearing mother) returns to France with her husband and young child. The reunion between mother and daughter will quickly turn to confrontation: truths will be told, accounts settled, loves and resentments confessed. All under the astonished eyes of the men. At the same time, Catherine is acting in a sci-fi film, playing a mother who never grows old…... The script and dialogue have been adapted into French by Léa Le Dimna.

Produced by Muriel Merlin for 3B Productions, The Truth will be co-produced by the Japanese outfit Bunbuku, along with the Paris-based company M.I. Movies (Mathilde Incerti) as an associated co-production. Filming will kick off on 8 October and will take place over the course of two months in Paris, with Eric Gautier (winner of a César in 1999 and nominated six other times since) as the director of photography. French distribution will be managed by Le Pacte, while international sales will be handled by Wild Bunch (except for the Asian territories, which will be handled by Gaga Corporations).

Other projects to receive an CNC advance on earnings include Portrait of a Lady on Fire [+leggi anche:
