The selection of Spanish films for this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival, the 66th edition (which will unspool from 21-29 September), includes the return of some well-known faces from previous editions of the gathering, who will be duking it out for the Golden Shell.

In fact, two of them can already boast about having said trophy in their display cabinets. Isaki Lacuesta, who scooped the Golden Shell in 2011 with his highly acclaimed, albeit divisive, The Double Steps [+leggi anche:

, his brand-new look at the lives of Gypsy brothers Isra and Cheíto, characters he first introduced in his 2006 documentary The Legend of Time. And Carlos Vermut, who has been firmly at the forefront of the new generation of Spanish filmmakers since he scooped the top prize and the Best Director Award in 2014 with Magical Girl [+leggi anche:

, his intriguing study of a successful singer from the 1990s (played by Najwa Nimri) who, with the help of a devoted fan, must struggle with her memory loss in order to return to the stage.

, a movie also starring Antonio de la Torre that will lift the lid on the essence of modern-day Spain, as it revolves around the figure of a politician caught up in a corruption affair.

Out of Competition, the festival will play host to the new foray into the world of series by Enrique Urbizu, who, together with Jorge Dorado, has helmed Giants, a thriller for the channel Movistar Plus+ about a family of criminals who use their second-hand furniture business at the flea markets as a front.

Lastly, joining the Spanish films previously announced in the New Directors (see the news) and Zabaltegi-Tabakalera sections (see the news), the Special Screenings sidebar will host Dantza [+leggi anche:
