Written by the filmmaking duo, the story takes us back to 1985 where soon-to-be-thirteen Vincent is living in middle-class Parisian suburbia with a distant older brother and parents in continual conflict. No longer a child but not yet an adult, the film follows Vincent through this particular phase in his life, discovering his thoughts and doubts over identity, friendship, family, religion, desire and the first stirrings of love. It’s a comedy about a moment during childhood at a time when hoping to change the world wasn’t “just an illusion”.
Just An Illusion is being produced by Nicolas Duval Adassovsky on behalf of Quad Films and by Ten Cinéma (the filmmakers’ own firm), in co-production with TF1 and Gaumont (with the latter also distributing the film in France on 14 October 2026 and steering world sales). The movie has also been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Disney+. Filming is taking place in Paris and the surrounding area with a wrap date of mid-July.
