Tilva Ros gets top awards at Estoril

The 4th Estoril Film Festival closed Sunday night with the awards ceremony, which crowned Tilva Ros [+see also:

film profile] with the Best Film Prize. The feature debut by Serbian director Nikola Lezaic also won the Cineuropa Prize.
Tilva Ros follows the lives of two small town friends in Serbia who share a love for skateboard culture. Their friendship will be shaken following the visit of a friend, who has immigrated to France. The film is partially inspired by the lives of the two lead actors, whom Lezaic discovered in their videos on YouTube.
Tiziana Finzi, member of the Cineuropa Prize jury, said they decided to present the award to Lezaic “for a narrative style that is simultaneously fresh and mature, which introduces us to and accompanies us through the deepest and most intense mood of a generation. [Lezaic’s] is a clear, objective look at the daily life – which is not always easy, but it is universal – of a world that is complicated yet at the same time fun, foolhardy and rebellious, and rightfully belongs to youth.”
The eclectic jury – composed of fashion designer Bella Freud, chef Juan Mari Arzak, pianist Piotr Andreszewski and singer Adolfo Luxúria Canibal – also decided to award veteran French star Isabelle Huppert with the Special Jury Prize João Bénard da Costa (named after the later director of the Portuguese Film Museum) for her performance in Marc Fitoussi’s Copacabana [+see also:

Reverse Motion, the feature debut by Russian director Andrei Stempkovski, won the Best Screenplay Award as well as a Special Mention for DoP Zaur Bolotaev.
Actress Joana de Verona, seen this year in Marco Martins’ sophomore feature How to Draw a Perfect Circle and in Raúl Ruiz’s Mysteries of Lisbon [+see also:

film profile], won the Emerging Talent Award 2010.
The winners of the short films competition were Alana Osbourne for Sredni Vashtar (Belgium) and Magnus Arnesen for Sing Me To Sleep (Poland).
