IndieLisboa tours with Portuguese films

by

London (French Institute, October 30 and November 1), Ljubljana (Kinodvor Theatre, November 9-10), Istanbul (Pera Museum, November 17-22) and Berlin (Arsenal Institut fur Film und Videokunst, December 11-13) are set to host the event IndieLisboa Days – Portuguese Cinema on Tour.

Organised by the Zero Em Comportamento association, this initiative gives foreign audiences a chance to see some of the local (fiction, documentary and animation) titles that are each year part of the IndieLisboa - Lisbon Independent Film Festival.

Founded six years ago, IndieLisboa quickly became a reference point for local film lovers, with programming that revealed a number of international filmmakers who had previously received little recognition in Portugal.

The festival also gained a reputation for spotting emerging domestic talent, such as last May, when João Salaviza's Arena was chosen Best Portuguese Short, just a few weeks before it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Arena was released theatrically last week as a complement to Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock.

Although this year's IndieLisboa Days programme is still to be announced, one title is already confirmed: Manuel Mozos' Ruínas, an experimental documentary about a series of abandoned buildings. The film received the TOBIS award for Best Portuguese Feature Film at Indie's latest edition.
