Haroun readies to shoot Screaming Man
On November 30, the six-week shoot will start in Chad on Mahamat-Saleh Haroun’s French/Belgian co-production A Screaming Man Is Not A Dancing Bear. This is the director’s third feature after Our Father (2003) and Dry Season [+see also:

The cast includes Youssouf Djaoro, Diouc Koma and Emile Abossolo .
Written by the director, the film (whose title is a quotation from Martinique poet Aimé Césaire’s Notebook of a Return To My Native Land) will be set in Chad, a country in the grip of civil war with armed rebels threatening to seize power.
In response, the government appeals to the population for a "war effort", demanding money or a child of fighting age. Adam (Djaoro) is thus harassed by his local chief to make his contribution. But he has no money, he only has his son (Koma).
Produced by Florence Stern for Paris-based Pili Films and by Diana Elbaum for Belgium’s Entre Chiens et Loups, A Screaming Man Is Not A Dancing Bear was selected for Cinemart at Rotterdam 2007.
The film’s €2m budget includes an advance on receipts from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC), backing from the Belgian French Community and the ACP-EU Cooperation Programme (ACPFILMS), and pre-sales from Canal +, Canal Horizons, Ciné Cinéma and TV5 Monde.
The title will be released theatrically in Belgium by Cinéart and in France by Pyramide. The latter is also handling international sales.
