Tom Tykwer’s new project,
Three, finished shooting last week and was immediately added to international seller
The Match Factory’s catalogue.
The film takes a mature look at the lives of Berliners of Tykwer’s generation via an unusual love triangle (skilfully portrayed by
Sophie Rois,
Devid Striesow and Sebastian Schipper). It represents a return home for the director on many levels, including thematic and linguistic (after his English-language movies
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer [
trailer] and
The International [
trailer]), as well as in production terms, for Tykwer reunites on
Three with his partner
Stefan Arndt and their production company
X Filme after ten years (see
news).

Arndt naturally wanted the film to be handled by his longstanding collaborator Michael Weber, of The Match Factory, with whom he has already developed (for titles such as
Goodbye Lenin! [
trailer] and
Run Lola Run) what he refers to as the "X Filme international sales model".
Weber is convinced that
Three will attract a lot of international interest and enjoy a career comparable to that of
Run Lola Run. He has already started negotiating the rights for several territories.
X Verleih will launch the film in Germany next autumn.
