04/05/2012 - Pre-sales on the new film by Denis Villeneuve, and a well-rounded line-up for Cannes

What a line-up for French international sales agency Pathé International who, at the 65th Cannes Film Festival (May 16 to 27) Film Market, will launch pre-sales for Denis Villeneuve (photo)’s next film, a psychological thriller currently in pre-production called An Enemy! After the success of Incendies (nominated in 2011 for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film), the filmmaker will now adapt a novel, The Double by Portuguese Nobel Prize winner José Saramago, to the big screen, on a screenplay by Javier Gullón. This Canadian-Spanish (Rhombus Mediam in Canada, Roxbury Pictures and Mecanismo Films in Spain) co-production is to star famous American actor Jake Gillenhaal.

Muriel Sauzay’s team will also officially kick off pre-sales for Beauty and the Beast by Christophe Gans, a project announced in Berlin to feature Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Léa Seydoux (Farewell, My Queen [+see also:

As for its titles currently in production, there will also be The Scapegoat (read more) by Nicolas Bary, adapted from the novel Au bonheur des ogres by Daniel Pennac, with Bérénice Béjo, Raphaël Personnaz, and Emir Kusturica. Sales will be launched on It Happened in Saint-Tropez by Danièle Thompson, for which shooting will soon start with Kad Merad, Monica Bellucci, Eric Elmosnino, and Valérie Bonneton in a family tale about two brothers opposed in every way. And business should be good for Cycling with Moliere (read more) by Philippe Le Guay (The Women on the 6th Floor), a film to feature Fabrice Luchini and Lambert Wilson.

Among its films in post-production, two stand out: Jappeloup by Christian Duguay (read more - with Guillaume Canet, Daniel Auteuil and Marina Hands) and the British thriller Last Passenger by Omid Nooshin.

Finally, Pathé International will also have the restored version of Tess by Roman Polanski in its line-up, a film to be screened as part of the Cannes Classics programme, as well as eight films for market screenings including What’s in a Name? [+see also:
