The co-founder of production company Fog 'n' Desire Films, Michal Kollár, is transferring Dán's story to the big screen in his feature debut, and Fog 'n' Desire is acting as one of the producers of the project. Legendary 90-year-old Slovak actor Ladislav Chudík is starring in the role of a priest, while the rest of the varied cast includes Slovak actors Zuzana Krónerová and Marián Geišberg, Czech actors Oldřich Kaiser, Martin Finger and Michal Suchánek – and in one of the leads, Polish actor Maciej Stuhr, the son of Jerzy Stuhr, a Polish actor who is well known for starring in a number of European co-productions and is also active as a director, with seven films to his name.

Young detective Richard Krauz starts working on the case of a murdered sexton in the summer of 1992, after the poor man has been found with a nail driven through his skull. Soon, Krauz discovers that communist secret police were behind the torturing of the sexton as well as a missing document detailing crimes committed by priests, with which the secret police blackmailed the church. The trail leads to an expert on interrogations from within the communist secret police, the so-called “Red Captain”.

Along with Czech outfit Fog'n'Desire Films, Slovak company Sokol Kollár is co-producing The Red Captain together with Poland's Mental Disorder 4. The project has received support from the Czech Republic's State Cinematography Fund and the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. A domestic theatrical release is expected in Autumn 2015.
