“A Sitges Film Festival production”

The Sitges Cine365 Film Award has been created as a result of the Sitges Film Festival’s desire to recognise and foster talent – and what better way to do this than by funding it? The initiative stems from the agreement between the event, the production outfit Apaches Entertainment (which has been behind hits such as The Impossible [+see also:

This new call will be open to all filmmakers resident in Spain who take part in the Oficial Fantàstic, Brigadoon and Nova Autoria sections of the next edition of the festival (which will be held in the Catalan town between 9 and 18 October) with a short film. During those dates, a decision will be made as to who will win the award, and he or she will be able to use the cash injection to shoot a feature that will be screened at Sitges in 2016.

In this way, the gathering is attempting to encourage the production of genre films and give a boost to new directors’ careers, as was the case with Purgatorio, directed by Pau Teixidor and starring Oona Chaplin, and the projects – which are already under way – by Carles Torrens (who will shoot this summer in Oregon) and by Gerardo Herrero Pereda, “a very European genre movie, as impressive as my shorts Picnic and Safari, and supervised by the Cannes Next Step workshop”, claims the Asturian director.

Herrero will round off the jury for the next Sitges Cine365 Film Award, together with producer Enrique López Lavigne (Apaches E.) and Jesús Ulled Nadal (Cine365 Film). The unreleased short films that wish to duke it out for this prestigious prize must not exceed a running time of 30 minutes, and the deadline for submitting entries is 31 July 2015.
