William Oldroyd, winner of Sundance London’s Short Film Competition for Best, is currently shooting his debut feature Lady Macbeth [+see also:

 at Durham locations, with principal photography expected to conclude on 17 October.  The film is being made under the iFeatures initiative, Creative England’s low budget feature production initiative backed by the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Fund, BBC Films and Creative Skillset, with budgets of £350,000 per film. Other films greenlit for production in the third iteration of the programme are The Levelling and Apostasy.

Written by playwright Alice Birch, winner of the 2014 George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright, Lady Macbeth is a 19th Century period drama telling a tale of forbidden passion and murder. The film is the first of its genre to be selected as an iFeatures finalist. The cast includes Florence Pugh (The Falling [+see also:

Christopher Granier-Deferre, Executive Producer, iFeatures, Creative England said, “Kicking this slate off with a period piece demonstrates how exciting and ambitious this initiative has become. It’s an incredible team - I can’t wait to see the results of their hard work.”

The film is produced by Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, whose short Head Over Heels scored an Oscar nomination, with Pete Smyth serving as Associate Producer with Executive Producers Lizzie Francke for BFI, Steve Jenkins at BBC Films, and Christopher Moll and Christopher Granier-Deferre at Creative England.
