Written by Nadir Moknèche, the story starts when Zino, who’s 27 years old and the son of Algerian immigrants, buries his mother in Paris. An only child, he grew up with her after the sudden departure of his father Farid, who left over 20 years ago. Based on what his mother told him, Zino believes that his father abandoned him. He learns from the notary that Farid didn’t return to Algeria, but is instead living in Camargue, and that his parents never got divorced. Why did his mother lie to him?

Produced by Bertrand Gore and Nathalie Mesuret for Blue Monday Productions (this is the 4th film by Nadir Moknèche that the company’s worked on), Lola Pater is being co-produced by Belgian company Versus Productions, pre-sales are being handled by Ciné+ and TV5 Monde, and the film is being supported by the Ile-de-France and PACA regions, Ouest-Provence, Acsé and Procirep/Angoa. The eight weeks of filming will end on 14 May and will take place in Paris, in Istres and Fos-sur-Mer. Distribution in France and international sales will be handled by ARP Sélection.
