Romania's Anca Damian won the €30,000 Eurimages Audentia Award, aimed at promoting female directors, for The Magic Mountain [+see also:

. The Council of Europe’s fund joined forces with the Istanbul Film Festival to present the first edition of the prize, during the closing ceremony of the 35th edition of the festival, held yesterday (read news).

The award, a cash prize of €30,000, has been instigated by Eurimages alongside a raft of other measures to promote greater gender equality in the European film industry. With it, Eurimages intends to celebrate women who have had the courage to be filmmakers, by giving their work greater visibility and inspiring other women to follow in their footsteps. Fifteen films had been pre-selected from across all categories and all films by female directors to compete for the first edition of the prize (read news).

For forthcoming editions a different international festival will be selected on a yearly basis.
