After his surreal and humorous journey from Russia to America entitled Leningrad Cowboys, Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki´s latest film, The Man With No Past takes another scathing look at our unwelcoming and cynical contemporary society. A stranger arrives in a new city and is promptly beaten to death in this epic drama about loneliness and the dehumanising aspects of life where tragedy becomes farce and ridicule drama. Kaurismäki also directed one episode of the ensemble film, Ten Minutes Older selected for Un Certain Regard.
