At the 2016 Locarno Film Festival, one Israeli film, People That Are Not Me [+see also:

, will be screened as part of the Signs of Life sidebar and will compete for the Swatch First Feature Awards. This section of the festival selects films that use new forms of narration and innovative cinematography, and both new and veteran directors’ works are being presented. People That Are Not Me is director Hadas ben Aroya’s first feature, and it tells the story of a young woman’s hopeless search for love in Tel Aviv, where many men are emotionally unavailable.

A graduate from Tel Aviv University’s Department of Film and Television, the filmmaker directed and wrote the film as her final project of the degree, and also plays the lead role. Alongside her stars Yonatan Bar-Or, who played the lead role in Someone to Run with (Mishe Larutz Ito), a 2006 Israeli drama-thriller directed by Oded Davidoff, which received 12 nominations at that year’s Israeli Film Academy Awards.
