Holy Motors to open Paris Cinéma

08/06/2012 - Holy Motors by Leos Carax (read the interview), notable for its absence from the awards list in Cannes, is now to open the 10th edition of Paris Cinéma (from June 29 to July 10), whose programme of over 200 films was unveiled yesterday.

Among the eight titles selected for the festival's competition are Berlinale awardees Tabou [trailer, film focus] by Portuguese director Miguel Gomes and Just The Wind by Hungarian filmmaker Bence Fliegauf, as well as Turkish-Greek co-production Beyond The Hill by Emin Alper and Brasilian-Argentinian-French co-production Found Memories [trailer] by Julia Murat.

Apart from Holy Motors, eleven more films will premiere at the festival straight from Cannes, including Palme d'Or winner Love [trailer, film focus] by Austrian director Michael Haneke and The Hunt [trailer, film focus] by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg (Best Actor for Mads Mikkelsen), as well as four features discovered at the Certain Regard: Our Children by Belgian director Joachim Lafosse (watch the interview),Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan, Confession of a Child of the Century by Sylvie Verheyde, and Renoir by Gilles Bourdos. Night Across the Street [trailer] by Raoul Ruiz and The We & the I by Michel Gondry will join the line-up from the Directors' Fortnight, while Beyond the Walls [trailer, film focus] by Belgian director David Lambert, In a Rush by Louis-Do de Lencquesaing, and Maddened by his Absence by Sandrine Bonnaire will join it from the Critics' Week.

The following films will also premiere at the festival: An Open Heart by Marion Laine (with Juliette Binoche and Edgar Ramirez), Voie Rapide by Christophe Sahr, The Dandelions by Carine Tardieu, Queen of Montreuil by Solveig Anspach, the comedy Les Kaïra by Franck Gastambide, Ombline by Stéphane Cazes, Golden Slumbers by Davy Chou, and Would you Have Sex with an Arab ? by Yolande Zauberman.

British-American co-production Jane Eyre [trailer] by Cary Fukunaga is also screening, as are Keep Me Upright by Zoé Chantre and two winners from the 2011 Locarno Film Festival (in the competition and in the Filmmakers of the Present selection): Back to Stay [trailer, film focus] (Abrir puertas y ventanas) by Milagros Mumenthaler and Summer of Giacomo [trailer] by Alessandro Comodin.

Paris Cinéma, to be held in 13 different locations throughout the French capital and to be closed by Low Profile by Cécilia Rouaud (with Denis Menochet and Vanessa Paradis), will also give tribute to attending directors Johnnie To, Leos Carax, and Olivier Assayas, as well as to the late Raoul Ruiz.
