Written by Riad Sattouf, the screenplay is set in the Popular Democratic Republic of Bubunne where women are in power, command, and wage war, while men wear veils and look after their homes. Among them, 20-year-old Jacky (Vincent Lacoste) has the same impossible dream as all the other young single men in his country: to marry the Colonel (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the female dictator (Anémone)'s daughter, and to have lots of little girls with her. But when the General finally decides to throw a ball to find her daughter a husband, things start to go wrong for Jacky. Mistreated by his step family, he can see his dream slowly crumble...

Produced by Anne Dominique Toussaint for Les Films des Tournelles (who participated in producing The French Kissers), Jacky in Women's Kingdom also benefits from co-productions by Pathé, Studio 37, and France 2 Cinéma. It has been pre-acquired by Canal + and Ciné +, and has received support from the Ile-de-France region as well as Sofica Cofimage 24, Soficinéma 9, Banque Postale Image 6, and Cinémage 7. Filming should continue until December 14 in France and Georgia. Pathé is to handle the film's distribution in France and international sales.

Les Films des Tournelles also have Philippe Le Guay's Cycling with Molière (read more) in post-production.
