German films in competition

- A strong German selection ranging from Fuerher Ex in competition to Rosa von Prunheim's latest

Two German feature films and two co-productions were selected for competition at this year’s Venice film festival. Winfried Bonengel’s Führer ex, about the radical extreme-right groups operating in the former East Germany, and Dorris Doerie’s Nackt about a dinner party for three couples. The co-productions are Sergei Bodrov’s Bear Kiss (made with France, Spain, Italy and Sweden) and Julie Walking Home by Agnieszka Holland (made with Germany, Canada and Poland).
The Venetian event also features special screenings of Ten Minutes Older produced by Ulrich Felsberg who is on this year’s jury and The Cello, a pan-European ensemble film by Bernardo Bertolucci, Mike Figgis, Claire Denis, Jean-Luc Godard, Jiri Menzel, Michael Radford, Volker Schloendorff and Istvan Szabo. Rosa von Prauncheim’s latest film, Kuehe vom Nebel geschwaengert, the story of her long-time collaboration with Berlin’s theatre of the homeless known as “Die Ratten – The Rats” will be screened in New Territories.
