Bonilla returns to Russia for Rasputín's dagger

by

Shooting is now halfway through on Jesús Bonilla’s adventure comedy La Daga de Rasputín (“Rasputin’s Dagger”). According to the renowned actor, however, his second directorial foray is a sequel “though not a continuation” of Moscow Gold, which was one of the biggest hits of 2003 (fourth best-performing Spanish film with 1.3m viewers and €5.8m grossed).

Having kicked off on April 15, the shoot is taking place – with the invaluable support of the Madrid Film Commission – in the Spanish capital and its surrounding area, where large sets have been built, in Segovia’s old prison and Las Salinas Palace in Medina del Campo, as well as in Moscow.

Co-written by Bonilla and Joaquín Andújar, La Daga de Rasputín recounts the search for a legendary treasure, the dagger of the film’s title, which was made in ancient Egypt and, according to legend, gives quasi-absolute power to whomever possesses it. This search takes the characters to the heart of Russia, on an adventure full of escapes, pursuits and humour.

Bonilla and Antonio Resines star once more, alongside popular comic actors Antonio Molero, Juan Luis Galiardo, María Barranco and Andrés Pajares.

Bonilla’s film was produced for around €5m by Enrique Cerezo for his production company (Enrique Cerezo PC), in co-production with Telecinco Cinema. Universal will handle domestic distribution.
