Davids: Gomorrah Best Film, Divo win seven statuettes11/05/2009 - As if it were still necessary, Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah [trailer, film focus] and Paolo Sorrentino’s Il Divo [trailer, film focus] have re-confirmed their status as films of the year, sweeping the David di Donatello Awards after doing the same at the domestic box office, their prizes at Cannes and beyond, and their impressive international sales.

However, on Friday evening it was Garrone’s film that won the most prestigious honours at Italy’s top film awards: Best Film, Director, Screenplay, Editing and Producer (Domenico Procacci). Il Divo won seven statuettes, for Best Actor (Toni Servillo) and six other technical categories, including Best Cinematography (Luca Bigazzi).
