MARKET Germany

And then there was Light for The Match Factory

by

German sales company The Match Factory has just acquired the international rights to large-scale European co-production, The Light. Directed by two-time Locarno Leopard winner Aktan Arym Kubat, the film will start shooting at the end of the month in Kirghizstan.

Set against the difficult political and economic backdrop of the former Soviet bloc, the film centres on an electrician who brings more than light to the world around him. Production is being managed by Cedomir Kolar and Marc Baschet for French company A.S.A.P. Films (who are collaborating for a third time with the director and have been developing close links with The Match Factory for some time), Thanassis Karathanos and Karl Baumgartner for Germany’s Pallas Film, Denis Vaslin for Holland’s Volya Films, Russia’s Viss and Kirghizstan’s Oy Art.
