Five German titles, including two Asian co-productions, hit screens this week.

First on the line-up is young award-winning director Jan Krüger’s Berlinale Panorama contender Light Gradient [+see also:

, which recounts two young men’s bicycle journey and summer love affair. The film is produced and distributed by Salzgeber.

Meanwhile, Rekord-Film is launching Czech-born director Peter Kahane’s Meine schöne Nachbarin. Produced by MediaPark, the film centres on a pretty opera singer who makes ends meet as best she can, as well as assisting her old neighbour. She helps him reunite with his son, not without causing rivalry between the two men.

, produced in Cologne by Thomas Schmidt, two formerly inseparable brothers find themselves, as adults, journeying into their rather painful past. The film is distributed by Alpha Medienkontor.

Movienet is taking viewers on a more exotic journey with the release of award-winning German/Japanese co-production The Red Spot, by Japan-born Munich-trained director Marie Miyayama. The film describes a Tokyo student’s trip to Germany, where she sows confusion in the minds of her host family.

Finally, Mayalok is launching Shaheen Dill-Riaz’s German/Bangladeshi documentary Koran Children, about teaching in a Koranic school.
