Josef Fares returns to comedy

film profile] (2005), Lebanese-born Swedish filmmaker Josef Fares has returned to the genre that made his famous: comedy.
His new (still untitled) film is currently shooting around the Trollhättan studios in Western Sweden until July 29. Torkel Petersson and the director's father Jan Fares – who both acted in Fares’ previous comedy hits, Jalla Jalla! (2000) and Kopps (2003) – play the leads in this story about life in a cycling shop and a father/son relationship. Petersson also co-wrote the script with Fares.
The film is produced by Fares' regular production partner Anna Anthony for Memfis Film, in co-production with Film i Väst and SVT, with support from the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond. SF will release it in Sweden in February 2010.
Inspired by his own experience as an immigrant who moved to Sweden at the age of ten, Fares pumped new creativity into Swedish film in the early 2000s and his biggest hits, Kopps and Jalla Jalla, sold over 775,000 admissions each in Sweden and were released in over 25 territories.
