Muntean, Sitaru, Van Rompey, Coninx and de Vries to attend Paris Project

The 7th Paris Cinéma festival kicks off today with a rich line-up of films (see news).

Meanwhile, European professionals are preparing to head to the French capital for the event’s industry sidebar, Paris Project, to be held from July 6-9. The programme includes co-production meetings focusing on projects in development, screenings of films currently in post-production and several round tables and seminars.

The 14 feature film projects selected this year include four European titles. Having attracted attention last year in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight with Boogie [+see also:

, Romanian director Radu Muntean will present the screenplay for Tuesday After Christmas (produced by Multimedia Est).

Belgian filmmaker Christophe Van Rompey, who also came to attention on the Croisette in Critics’ Week 2008 with Moscow, Belgium [+see also:

, is preparing Blue Birds (produced by Belgium’s Sancta Media and China’s Xstream Pictures), while his compatriot Stijn Coninx (Sister Smile [+see also:

) will unveil the script for Marina (produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama).

Paris Project has also selected Dutch director Jochem de Vries’s Cornea (NFI Productions). Another noteworthy title in the line-up is And Protect, Protected by Japan’s Naomi Kawase.

Among the films in post-production looking for distributors and/or international sellers is Romanian director Adrian Sitaru’s Domestic (produced by 4Proof Film and HI Film), which will have a 30-minute screening. The filmmaker’s previous work, Hooked [+see also:

, enjoyed success at international festivals, including Venice.

On the seminar side, Paris Project will devote Tuesday, July 7 to debates about ways to optimise releases on several territories and the issues posed by VoD, organised in collaboration with Europa Distribution. Speakers will include representatives from Gutek Film (Poland), Wild Bunch Benelux, Imagine Film(Netherlands), Filmladen (Austria), Arthaus (Norway), ABC/Cinemien (Benelux), Cinéart (Belgium), Notro Films (Spain), Artificial Eye (UK), Pyramide and Les Films du Losange (France), as well as Indie Circle, the European Audiovisual Observatory and the European Producers Club.
