The Swedish Film Institute announced yesterday that Ruben Östlund’s Involuntary [+see also:

has been chosen as Sweden’s candidate for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Östlund’s vignette movie had its world premiere at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2008. It went on to bag several international awards such as Best Film at the Brussels Film Festival and Best Screenplay and Audience Award at the Stockholm Film Festival.

Sales agent The Coproduction Office has sold the film to 18 territories, including France (KMBO), the UK (Atlantic), the Netherlands (Filmmuseum), Belgium (Lumière), and Denmark (Camera).

. The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on February 2, 2010, and the ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 7.

Östlund and Hemmendorff’s upcoming project Play is scheduled to start shooting this autumn. Based on the director’s original screenplay, the film is a tragicomic behavioural study in which a gang of young robbers make their victims race for their belongings. The Co-production Office is again attached as sales representative.
