Dumont, Ozon and Honoré in competition at San Sebastian

The official competition at the 57th San Sebastian International Film Festival (September 17-26), which opens tomorrow, includes three prominent French directors (Bruno Dumont, François Ozon and Christophe Honoré) vying for the Golden Conch. The prize will be awarded by a jury presided by fellow French filmmaker Laurent Cantet.

Winner of the Cannes Grand Prize in 1999 and 2006, selected in competition at Venice in 2003, Dumont (51) is making his first appearance in competition at San Sebastian with his fifth feature, Hadewijch [+see also:

Produced by 3B Productions in co-production with Arte France Cinéma and Germany’s Herbstfilms Produktion, the film received an advance on receipts from the National Film Centre (CNC) and backing from the Ile-de-France and Nord Pas-de-Calais regions. Sold internationally by Pyramide, it will be released in French theatres by Tadrart Films on November 25.

Selected four times in competition at Berlin (in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2009), at Venice in 2004 and Cannes in 2003, Ozon (41) returns to San Sebastian for the second time, after competing in 2000 with Under the Sand. Starring Isabelle Carré, the film is produced by Eurowide and co-produced by Italian company Teodora Film. It is sold internationally by Le Pacte, who haven’t yet announced a French release date.
