For the fifth year, the Warsaw Film Festival will host the CentEast Market (October 16-18), which aims to bring together film industry professionals and new productions from Central and Eastern Europe.

Traditionally, the main focus of CentEast Market is the Warsaw Screenings, where new Polish films are unveiled before international sellers, distributors and festival selectors.

Following the latest edition of the Warsaw Screenings (during summer 2009), three Polish films were invited to participate at different festivals: Katarzyna Rosłaniec’s Mall Girls [+see also:

at Toronto, Pawel Borowski’s Zero in competition at Pusan and Wojciech Smarzowski’s Dark House in official competition at Tokyo.

At CentEast Market, which has grown into CentEast Warsaw-Moscow, there will also be screenings of Central and Eastern European films on October 16 in Warsaw and October 18 in Moscow. The selection includes 17 titles, from works-in-progress to completed films that haven’t yet screened in world première, productions from Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, the Czech Republic and other countries in that part of Europe.

The CentEast Market also organises thematic conferences, which will focus this year on the sale and distribution of films in Eastern Europe, and the cooperation between sellers and producers.

Finally, distributors will share their experiences on the circulation of auteur films in western Europe.
