(see news) by duo Melissa de Raaf and Razvan Radulescu. “Through the story of a daughter who returns home after a long absence, the film helps us understand Romania’s history of the past 30 years, the difficulties children have in talking to their parents and the shock of culture clash”, said Castellina. Cineuropa will soon dedicate a focus to the film.

(see news) was given a Cineuropa Special Mention.

The L'Oréal Award to a young Portuguese talent went to actor Rafael Morais, while the Meo Prize for Best Short Film was given to Rafal Skalski’s 52 Procent. Deixar Cair a Noite by Jorge Jacome picked up a special mention.

Festival organisers are satisfied with the festival’s third edition, which drew much larger audiences than in previous years. Alongside the many films in the program, the international guests (including Francis Ford Coppola, David Cronenberg and Juliette Binoche) and the numerous panels (Europa Distribution, European film schools), the Estoril festival this year dedicated much space to the visual arts in multiple forms: il ciclo Cinemart (with films and videos by Robert Franck, Peter Handke and Bob Dylan, among others); the section Cineastas Raros (Franco Piavoli and Víctor Erice); an exhibit of drawings by Binoche; and Cronenberg’s two exhibits, Cromosomes and Red Cars, organised in collaboration with the Turin-based Volumina.
