Red carpet roll-out for Swiss Film Prize

On March 6 in Lucerne, some 1,000 hand-picked guests will attend the 13th Quartz Swiss Film Prize ceremony, which honours the year’s key Swiss productions.

The winners, chosen by professionals at the Swiss Film Academy, will be presented with a Quartz trophy. It is an honorary award, but the “nominees” (see news) shared a sum of €260,000 granted by the Federal Office for Culture.

During the ceremony, the jury – comprising director-producer Markus Fischer, movie theatre director Romy Gysin, screenwriter Antoine Jaccoud, producer Gérard Ruey, journalist Nina Scheu, director Mohammed Soudani and actress Alexandra Tiedemann – will award its Special Prize, to be presented by artist HR Giger, who designed the creatures for Alien.

Director Claude Goretta will receive an Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement (see news).

The public TV networks will devote a whole evening to Swiss film creation by broadcasting part of the gala ceremony and numerous films, including Denis Rabaglia’s enchanting tale Marcello Marcello, at prime time on three main regional public channels.

The main partners of the ceremony are SRG SSR idée suisse, the Federal Office for Culture and promotion agency Swiss Films.
