by Bénédicte Prot

European auteur films in line-up09/04/2010 - This week’s line-up of new releases may not be huge but it does include several quality European titles.

First up is Jan Troell’s Scandinavian co-production Everlasting Moments [trailer], which already has a few successes under its belt: it represented Sweden in the Golden Globes and Oscar nominations race, and triumphed at the Guldbagge Swedish Film Awards in January. This film, whose protagonist sees the world through new eyes after winning a camera in the lottery, is distributed by Arsenal.

Meanwhile, MFA is launching another highly-anticipated film: Nothing Personal [trailer, film focus], by Polish-born Netherlands-based director Urszula Antoniak. This Irish/Dutch co-production explores the notion of solitude through the story of an encounter.

Neue Visionen is unveiling Rafi Pitts’s highly intelligent Iranian/German co-production The Hunter [trailer], which screened in competition at the latest Berlinale (see review).

Finally, GMfilms is releasing Agostino Imondi and Dietmar Ratsch’s German documentary Neukölln Unlimited, produced by Ludwigsburg-based Indi Film. It traces the daily life of three Lebanese brothers who are quite well-known on the Berlin hip-hop scene and do their best to support their family and stay in Germany.
