Three’s a crowd in The Rebound

by

Kinga Dębska’s debut narrative feature, The Rebound, will be launched in Polish theatres tomorrow. A graduate of Prague’s FAMU Film School, the director has helmed several documentaries, including Kocham Chrystusa, Droga, Prawda, Źycie and Szamani I Szarlatani.

Inspired by a newspaper report, The Rebound traces the story of a couple: psychiatrist Piotr (Paweł Królikowski) and the much younger Hanna (Anna Geislerova), a Czech filmmaker. Their relationship seems harmonious but Piotr (who gets on very well with his patients) is himself in need of help for he can’t kick his drug dependency.

His difficult situation gets even more complicated with the return of his long-absent son, which disturbs the couple’s life. Piotr and Hanna’s perception of reality and their personal relations changes from one day to the next.

The film, which was unveiled and enthusiastically received at the latest Era New Horizons Film Festival in Wrocław, also stars Lesław Żurek, Magda Biegańska, Bartosz Żukowski, Monika Kwiatkowska-Dejczer and Katarzyna Cynke. It was lensed by Wojciech Staroń.

The Rebound was co-produced by Polish studio Kalejdoskop and Czech company IN Film, with backing from the Polish Film Institute. Kino Świat is releasing the title domestically.
