Urbizu returns to noir with No Habrá Paz para los Malvados

by

While the industry focused its attention on the Cannes Film Festival and its important film market, Bilbao-born director Enrique Urbizu started shooting on No Habrá Paz para los Malvados (“There’ll Be No Peace for the Wicked”), a film noir produced by Lazona and Telecinco Cinema. Having kicked off on May 17, lensing will last eight weeks in Ciudad de la Luz, Alicante and Madrid.

Co-scripted by Urbizu and Michel Gaztambide, the film tells the story of Santos Trinidad, a police inspector who is going through a low patch and gets caught up in a shoot-out while investigating the disappearance of a young woman. As the detective and judge Chacón proceed with the investigation, they discover that behind the altercation between drug dealers lies a much more dangerous plot than they imagined.

José Coronado will star in the lead role, alongside Rodolfo Sancho, Helena Miquel and Juanjo Artero.

No Habrá Paz para los Malvados will be the eighth feature by the Basque director, who is much acclaimed by critics and fans of detective films. His works in the genre include Anything for Bread (1991) and Box 507 (2002), his biggest hit to date with 0.5m viewers.

The film will be produced by brothers Ignacio and Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson for Lazona and Álvaro Augustín for Telecinco Cinema.

There is a strong link between the two companies, who collaborated on David Serrano’s Days of Cinema (2007). Moreover, one of Lazona’s founders, Ignacio Salazar-Simpson, was in charge of setting up Telecinco’s film arm in 1999 after the obligation came into effect for television companies to invest in film production.
