Sex toys and female pope in CNC selection

As shown by the recent selection of Alix Delaporte’s Angèle et Tony (see news) in Venice’s International Critic’s Week, the debut features backed by the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) with an advance on receipts often end up being showcased at major international festivals. Hopefully, the same will be true for the four projects selected at the latest session of the first advances on receipts committee.

The pledge of an advance on receipts has been made to three narrative feature film screenplays: Jean Breschand’s La Papesse Jeanne (“Pope Joan”) (produced by Les Films d'Ici), which recounts the legendary story of a girl in the 14th century who apparently acceded to the papal throne by passing herself off as a man; Eric Pittard’s De L’usage du Sex Toy en Temps de Crise (“On the Use of Sex Toys In Times of Crisis”, ADR Productions); and writer Abdellah Taïa’s Sans Toi, Sans Ton Amour, Sans Ton Corps, Sans Ton Sexe (“Without You, Without Your Love, Without Your Body, Without Your Sex”, production: Wallworks).

Finally, the CNC has also selected a documentary feature project: Yasmina Adi’s 17 Octobre 1961 (Agat Films).
