Hamer in competition at San Sebastian for first time

Bent Hamer’s Home for Christmas will be vying for a Golden Shell at the 58th San Sebastian Film Festival (September 17-25) in Spain.

This will be the established Norwegian director’s first time competing at San Sebastian. Four of his five previous films – including FIPRESCI winners Eggs and Kitchen Stories – were launched at the Cannes Film Festival.

Home for Christmas is a modern Christmas tale based on a selection of short stories from Norwegian author Levi Henriksen’s collection Only Soft Presents Under the Tree. The film tells the story of a group of people from a fictional small town whose lives are intertwined.

As always, Hamer blends humour and tragedy, leaving space for hope and forgiveness. Home for Christmas stars Trond Fausa Aurvåg (The Bothersome Man [+see also:

), Fridtjof Såheim (Betrayal), Reidar Sørensen, Ingunn Beate Øyen and Nina Andresen Borud.

The film was produced by Hamer’s BulBul Films in co-production with Sweden's Filmimperiet and Germany's Pandora Film. Sandrew Metronome will release it domestically on November 12 while The Match Factory handles international sales.
