After its third weekend on Danish screens, Susanne Bier’s In a Better World [+see also:

film profile] had the best screen average of all titles and kept its second place in the Top Ten after Toy Story 3. The film has its international premiere today in Toronto’s Special Presentations.

Released by Nordisk Film on August 26, In a Better World has so far sold 186,645 admissions from 80 screens according to the Danish distributors association FAFID. The film upped its box office by almost 3% from last weekend and did better than the Angelina Jolie vehicle Salt, released last weekend by Sony/Disney.

For Klaus Odegaard, head of marketing for the Nordic region at Nordisk Film, In a Better World had an outstanding first weekend. Compared to previous Bier movies, the film’s opening was better than for Brothers [+see also:

Nordisk Film will release In a Better World in Norway on September 24 on 15 prints (five 35mm and 10 digital) and Sweden will follow on October 1 with around 90 prints (half of which will be digital).

Two Danish directorial debuts produced by Nimbus Film were in the local Top Ten last weekend, a sign of local cinema’s successful gamble on new talent.

Kaspar Munk’s coming-of-age story Hold Me Tight [+see also:

film profile] was number five after its second weekend, while Louise Friedberg’s drama The Experiment, about Greenlandic children forced by the Danish colonial regime to take part in a terrible social pilot project in the late 1940s, opened to a sixth place at the Top Ten for Sandrew Metronome.

New films opening this Thursday include the 3D animation film Sammy’s Adventures: The Secret Passage (SF Filmcompagniet) by Belgium’s Ben Stassen.
