, representing Denmark in the Oscars nominations for Best Foreign Language Film.

Bier is a strong and familiar name in Hollywood, where she directed Halle Berry and Benicio del Toro in Things We Lost in the Fire. Her latest drama, co-written with Anders Thomas Jensen, was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics, which is planning a North American release in the first quarter of 2011 to build on the Oscars campaign.

In a Better World received excellent reviews in Toronto, where it screened in the Special Presentations section. In Denmark, the drama went from second place to top of the box office last weekend, overtaking Toy Story 3, which opened simultaneously four weeks ago.

The Zentropa production was pre-sold by TrustNordisk to around 50 territories, including Germany (Universum Film) and Switzerland (Frenetic Films).

The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 25 and the awards ceremony in Los Angeles will be held February 27.
